Borgo Maragliano

Borgo Maragliano BubblesBorgo Maragliano produces elegant, classic-method bubbles, which are delicious for special occasions or simply because it’s a lovely day. Located in Piedmont, near Asti, Italy, the estate comprises 110 acres of vineyards about 1,500 feet above sea level. This low altitude, combined with sea wind and the vineyards’ sandy-clay soil, creates a wonderful environment for Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Riesling grapes. We recently tasted three sparklers: Borgo Maragliano 2020 Francesco Galliano Blanc de Blancs Brut Alta Langa DOCG; 2020 Giovanni Galliano Brut Rosé Alta Langa DOCG; and 2018 Dogma Blanc de Noirs Brut Nature VS.Q. 2018.

Italian Sparklers

Consorzio dell’AstiConsorzio Asti, established in 1932, protects and promotes the Italian sparklers from Moscato d’Asti DOCG and Asti Spumante DOCG. These are bubbles used for toasting around the world, and a pride of Italian viticulture and oenology. These sparkling wines come from Moscato Bianco grapes, a variety that grows in the green hills of Piedmont. The wines are slightly sweet and pair well with desserts. Or enjoy them on their own as an aperitivo or digestivo. Read on for details.
