A couple of years ago, Phinney sold The Prisoner to beverage giant Constellation Brands for $285 million. He then turned more attention to another grape.

Murrieta’s Well Wins Again

We have been fans of Murrieta’s Well blends, The Spur (red), and The Whip (white), since 2011, and their latest vintages continue to impress.

We enjoyed samples of these two blends, plus a few other wines in the portfolio of this popular Livermore Valley winery, at a recent Snooth virtual tasting with Murrietta’s Well talented winemaker Robbie Meyer.

But before getting to our tasting notes, Murrieta’s Well has credentials worth mentioning – it is one of California’s original wineries, propagated in 1883 with vineyard cuttings from Chateau Margaux and Chateau d’Yquem in France. Browne Family Vineyards

Browne Family Vineyards opened a new tasting room in Seattle’s historic Pioneer Square in February, and kindly sent us some samples of their new rosé release and some Bordeaux-style red wines.

Browne Family still has a tasting room and vineyard in Walla Walla, where they’ve been producing wine since 2005. In addition, Browne Family creates two wines exclusively for one of our favorite Asian restaurants, P.F. Chang’s.

We enjoyed their 2017 Grenache Rosé and the 2013 Klipsun Merlot at a media preview of Taste Washington last month, where we met Courtney Browne, proprietor with her husband and owner, Andrew Browne, who is also CEO of Precept Wine.

Murietta’s Well

Murrieta’s Well  is one of California’s original wineries, propagated in 1883 with vineyard cuttings from Chateau Margaux and Chateau d’Yquem in France. Need we say more? Oh, one more thing: The winery is owned by Philip Wente of Wente Vineyards, the country’s oldest, continuously operated family-owned winery.

We were recently invited by Snooth to a virtual tasting with Murietta’s Well talented winemaker Robbie Meyer. Unfortunately we couldn’t make it, but we thankfully received some of his wines to taste.

Murietta’s Well is well known for its popular blends, The Spur (red), and The Whip (white). But the Livermore Valley brand offers other wines in its portfolio too.
