We continue to increase our knowledge and excitement about BC wines. Last week, we drove to my hometown Vancouver to attend a Wines of BC tasting, Swirl Around BC. Coming on the heels of our recent, successful Okanagan trip, we looked forward to more BC wines to experience. We were not disappointed. More than 50 wineries poured new releases that showcased the diverse terroir in BC. Our favorite wine of the day: Black Hills 2020 Ipso Facto. Two sparklers also caught our attention: Tinhorn Creek Blanc de Blanc 2018 and Tantalus Blanc de Blanc 2019. Read on for more about these and other BC wines we appreciated.
In time for the holidays, we tasted four sustainable wines from Clif Family that would be perfect for Thanksgiving feasts. These are killer wines. With the very first sip, we noticed the excellent quality. First, owners Kit Crawford and Gary Erickson source the grapes from CCOF Organic and Napa Green certified vineyards in the Howell Mountain and Oak Knoll District AVAs. Next, winemaker Laura Barrett crafts her wines with minimal intervention for a true expression of the grape’s character. Read on for details of these sustainable Thanksgiving wines.
Rush Lattin Cellars is a Washington state winery located at the Maltby Wine Vault in Snohomish. The winery focuses on Syrah and Grenache, and I have no idea why we’ve never tasted their wines before. So when owners Larry and Michelle Ransom recently sent us Syrah samples, we welcomed the introduction. We discovered they opened the winery in 2017, with a goal to make some of Washington’s finest Syrahs, using grapes from Red Mountain and Horse Heaven Hills. Subsequently, Seattle Wine Awards 2022 gave Rush Lattin Cellars a double-gold as well as a gold for two of their Syrahs. We tasted both of them and understand why.
Adega on 45th Estate Winery is unique in B.C.’s south Okanagan. First, Adega wines are relatively inexpensive, compared to many other good-quality wines in the region. Next, they don’t charge a tasting fee. Rather, they ask for a small donation to help families in need. How cool is that? Meanwhile, all their wines are known for being fruit forward with a dry finish. We shared a tasting of nine wines, including their signature wine Quarteto Tinto, which we brought home.
