Smoke on the Boulevard
Our new favorite cocktail is Smoke on the Boulevard, which we first tasted at Hell’s Kitchen at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Next, we ordered it again at Hell’s Kitchen in Lake Tahoe. We so adore this cocktail, Dave purchased a smoking gun kit, so we could make it at home. We adjusted the name to Smoke on the Water since our backyard, where Dave does the smoking, is on a little lake. As well, we both like the Deep Purple song of the same name, which tells the tale of a casino fire in Switzerland. Fitting, because of the Vegas connection. Read on for the recipe.
On our whirlwind Temecula wine country tour last week, we first stopped at scenic Leoness Cellars. The winery features stunning vineyard and mountain views, plus an award-winning restaurant. And the tasting room offers friendly hospitality and some darn good wine. We adored Leoness Cabernet Franc Reserve, however other bottles also made us smile. Read on for information about the winery’s story, their memorable wine and picturesque location.

Likewise, it was a wonderful way to end Washington Wine Month. We tasted some standout wine, and connected with winemakers. We’ve known some of them for years, while we met others more recently. Read on for details about Red Mountain AVA, the winemakers and the wine. Continue reading
