We hate to see the warm days of summer end, but there’s something special about the fall and harvest at the vineyards. Also at this time of year, L’Ecole bottles Frenchtown, the winery’s first red wine every vintage. It pays tribute to Walla Walla Valley’s first settlement of French Canadians in the early 1800s. L’Ecole’s historic schoolhouse is located in this area, and consequently named “school” in French. In addition, Frenchtown salutes France, by uniquely blending 79% Bordeaux grapes with 21% Rhone grapes. Read on for details.
Last week, we took an unexpected trip with good friends to taste wines in central WA. First, we visited the tasting rooms of Boudreaux Cellars, Obelisco and Hard Row to Hoe in Leavenworth. Next, we decided to continue the adventure in Chelan Valley, where we tasted more of Hard Row’s lineup at their vineyard. We also stopped at Succession Winery, another favorite. Sosie Wines is a French-inspired boutique winery in Sonoma County. Sosie is the French word for “double” or “twin.” Sosie’s husband-and-wife team of Scott MacFiggen and Regina Bustamante say the name reflects their ambition to produce California wines in an Old World style: food friendly and well balanced between acid and fruit.
